Roadshow with the DOLL panther
DOLL® has sent a complete semi-trailer with 3-axle panther® low-bed and heavy-duty truck on a roadshow so that interested parties can try it out for free and with no obligations. So until spring 2020, a 3-axle low-bed trailer from the DOLL panther® series will be on tour all over Germany. With the roadshow, which started last summer, companies in the heavy and special transport sector will have the opportunity to experience the advantages of the panther® chassis for themselves in a two-week test drive.
The proposition has been extremely popular. The test dates are filling up fast and the preliminary feedback has been extremely positive. For example, according to Robert Weigand from the Bavaria-based Josef Hell Bauunternehmen GmbH: “I think it’s great that DOLL® are offering a real-world test like this. What’s more, the vehicle itself is brilliant if you need to transport large and heavy machinery. We were particularly impressed with the small turning circle and the steering is top notch.”
Agile 3-axle vehicle with high payload
The aforementioned hydraulic steering is a fixed part of the panther® chassis and offers a steering angle of up to 55°. On the whole, the panther® concept, which DOLL® has constantly been developing further since its launch in 2010, provides numerous versions with up to five axles, different goosenecks and loading platforms. The roadshow sample is a panther® T3E-0S3FZ25 with low-bed, three axle lines and a gooseneck with 25-ton fifth wheel load. With a payload of up to 46,550 kg, the payload-optimised vehicle is suitable in particular for transporting a wide variety of construction machinery equipment: the vehicle width of 2750 mm across low-bed and chassis ensures that the centre of roll of standard crawler chassis does not stray from the frame. The detachable gooseneck with ramps that retract into the low-bed is a useful addition. A wide excavator trough that is open at the rear provides further applications.
Marc Israel, managing director of TBH Thüringer Baumaschinenhandel GmbH & Co. KG, can confirm the flexibility on offer after his test drive: “We transported a huge range of different materials with the panther®, including dumper trucks, wheel loaders, bulldozers, material handling machines and mobile excavators. The great thing is that it’s also very easy to transport heavy loads and high loads with the lightweight low-bed trailer. Another advantage is the convenient radio remote control – with this, you can control nearly all of the trailer functions, for example lowering the chassis and gooseneck hydraulically, which speeds up the loading and unloading process.”
CAN-bus-based DOLL tronic® control concept
Behind the controller, which has received a great deal of praise during the roadshow, is the DOLL tronic® system. The concept enables all the trailer functions to be controlled via separate keypads at the rear and on the gooseneck or using wireless operation. Feedback on the wireless remote control display enables drivers to monitor many aspects of the vehicle and its operation from up front. Loading and unloading can be completed more quickly and drivers do not have to get in and out of the vehicle as often. The computer-assisted control concept, which is based on CAN bus, also supports permanent monitoring of all positions. Driving levels can even be adjusted during travel. The raising and lowering equipment has a total stroke of 315 mm (–110/+205 mm). There is also an integrated “spirit level function” for a consistent driving level on terrain that slopes away steeply to the side (driving heights can be set separately on either side). Plus, every panther® vehicle is equipped with DOLL tronic® as standard.
In addition to DOLL tronic®, there’s another extremely useful feature available: the EEP (position-independent electronic track adjustment) assistance system. The truck-trailer combination does not necessarily have to be fully straightened up again after loading and unloading. Instead, the electronics module determines the correct setting automatically by comparing the ramp angle of the traction unit and trailer with the steering angle of the chassis axles.
